An exceptionally fine educational experience for our two children. The Montessori method has encouraged their love of learning, joy of success and desire for challenge. The learning materials and classroom have provided a rich environment for discovery and growth. The size of the school has greatly contributed to the comfortable, familial atmosphere where friendships have been made and maintained.
- Parent of two IMHS students
After the crisis of receiving a difficult diagnosis, the kindness of the teachers felt like a miracle, the first of many with this school. The staff worked as a team to teach and to love our son and they supported me in my process of coming to terms with his disabilities. They did this by getting to know our son – by recognizing his struggles, honouring his efforts and appreciating his charms.
- Parent of IMHS students, including a child with an intellectual disability & speech disorder
The staff at IMHS provides a loving, nurturing, stimulating, supportive and inclusive environment for so many children with such a wide variety of special needs. They truly provide a safe environment for children who learn differently. As true dedicated professionals, they continuously accept children into their program with various skills, and learning differences. They are willing and quickly learn each student’s strengths and weaknesses and adapt the programs for the student. In doing so, the staff at IMHS fosters a climate of tolerance and inclusion among the children they teach.
- Parent of an IMHS student with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Two years ago his many difficulties were contributing to a severe delay in development in all areas. This had the potential to cripple him socially, academically and emotionally. In addition to the clinical support provided by his therapy team, he has spent full days at IMHS for the last two years. If this school had been unwilling to work with him and work alongside the other professionals involved it is very unlikely that he would have been able to achieve and prove his amazing potential. I do believe that we have all now given him the strongest start possible.
- Therapist & Parent of an IMHS student with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
The school has made every effort to provide excellent programming for all of the children in their care regardless of abilities, or financial circumstances. They have contracted for services when these have not been available through public sources. The staff have availed themselves every opportunity to upgrade their skills in their own time and often at their own expense. Moreover they have worked well beyond the required hours to provide and enriched program.
- Therapist
To sum it up, I can’t think that there could be a better school environment for a child that at Island Montessori. The school has so many wonderfully positive things to offer the children and the community that I sincerely hope it will be able to continue to be offering those things long into the future.
